James Erickson's work explores the dignity of the human
figure and the poetry of the ordinary. He finds inspirations from direct encounters with the people and places of his immediate
surroundings. His paintings have been shown throughout the east coast including galleries in Philadelphia, Washington D.C.,
Erickson has instructed courses in Philadelphia through the Mural
Arts Program, The Fleisher Art Memorial and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. In Maryland he worked with the Heights
School from 2011 to 2016 where he served as art director prior to jointing faculty at Woodberry Forest School in Virginia.
Upon graduation from the University of Virginia he was awarded the Aunspaugh Fifth Year Fellowship which enabled him to further
his studio practice at UVA for another year. He went on to study painting in Philadelphia where he earned his M.F.A. at the
Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
